Evidence Based Practices

Based on your specific symptom presentation and other individual factors, I will tailor treatment by integrating evidence-based practices that best meet your needs. These approaches, which you can read more about below, will be used when clinically appropriate to help you achieve your goals. My focus is always on providing the most effective treatment strategies to support your unique journey toward healing and growth.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The idea behind CBT is that thoughts can influence how we feel and act, and by addressing negative or unhelpful thoughts, we can improve our emotional well-being and behavior. CBT is a goal-oriented approach for any anxiety related disorders that helps individuals develop coping skills and manage stress.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions

SPACE aims to treat children and adolescents with anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder through working with their parents. Parents who participate in SPACE will learn skills and tools to help their child overcome anxiety, OCD or related problems. The treatment focuses on changes that parents can make to their own behavior; they do not need to make their child change.

Exposure and Response Prevention

ERP is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is the gold standard treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, and panic disorder. ERP involves gradually exposing individuals to situations or thoughts that trigger anxiety or distress, while preventing the typical compulsive response they would normally engage in to relieve that anxiety.

Habit Reversal Therapy

(HRT) is a behavioral therapy technique designed to help individuals reduce unwanted habits or repetitive behaviors, such as nail-biting, hair-pulling, or tics. The process involves increasing awareness of the behavior, identifying triggers, and then using alternative replacement. Through practice and reinforcement, HRT helps individuals gain better control over their behaviors, leading to long-term changes and improved well-being.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT focuses on helping individuals accept their thoughts and feelings, rather than trying to change or eliminate them. ACT encourages people to be more present in their lives and take actions that are aligned with their values, even when difficult. The goal of ACT is to increase psychological flexibility. ACT is utilized for a variety of different mental health conditions.

Motivational Interviewing

Change can be both scary and difficult. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy that focuses on enhancing a person’s motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. Instead of telling someone what they should do, MI helps individuals find their own reasons and motivation for making positive changes.
